Poetry is an expression of creative ideas in the mind of the poet through written words. As poetry is a written form of conveying certain ideas with the reader, it has certain forms. Poetry has been written in various forms like Fard, Nazm, Qasiidaa, Salaam, Sehraa, Ghazal, Rubaayii etc. Ghazal is an important form of poetry and has got worldwide attention. Ghazal is a form of poetry originated in Iran in 10th century A.D. Actually Ghazal is a type of poetic expression grown from Qasida which is another form of poetry existed in Arabia. 

Tashbib which is a part of Qasida has got detached from Qasida and developed into Ghazal from time to time. Ghazal has got a prime position in Indian poetry and became a popular form of poetry in India. Amir Khusro has been considered as the creator of Ghazal in northern India during the period between 1253 and 1325. From 12th century onwards Ghazal had became popular in India with the extension and advent of Muslim influence. Ghazal is a short poem which consist rarely more than twelve couplets in the same meter. Matla is rhyming couplet through which Ghazal always opens.

Couplet is the main part of Ghazal and the rhyme of the opening couplet will be followed in the second line of each couplets. Therefore the rhyming pattern of the couplets in a Ghazal will be AA, BA, CA, DA and so on. Urdu Ghazal is very much famous as Urdu is the first language in which Ghazal has been emerged.
