As a roofer with 25 years experience, ten of which I’ve owned my own business, I take a lot of pride in my chosen industry. Over the years I’ve replaced tens of hundreds of roofs that had developed black roof stains.

I used to believe these black stains were signs of wear or just water marks. It was until recently that I learned that these black stains are actually caused by airborne algae.

I’ve always thought of myself as an ethical, reputable, and honest contractor. The thought of replacing so many roof’s that probably only needed cleaned bothers me immensely. I wasn’t being dishonest; I was simply uneducated about cleaning shingles.

I now refer customers that have black streaks on otherwise perfect shingles to a local roof cleaning contractor. In turn he refers clients to me who’s roofs are in too bad of shape to clean and definitely need replaced. It’s a great relationship and I feel better knowing I’m giving people a service they actually need.
